Here is a project from my first year at Teesside Uni. I have brought it back from the dead and put it on here because I plan to remake it in 3D. Not immediately, but it will get done at some stage. For this version we weren't supposed to fully animate it. Hopefully it will be freakin awesome when its done properly. I will be doing it from scratch, including new character designs and everything so it will take a while on top of some other stuff I am doing, BUT I think it has potential to be a nice piece so I shall put some effort in.

Return to 2D

This is a digital painting I just completed in Photoshop entitled "75" after the infamous Dublin bus route which is the most unpredictable bus of all time, not to mention what goes on on it.

Taken from a random sketch I had in a sketchbook, it began as a means of testing out my new graphics tablet. Seeing as it has been so long since I actually drew something I was so rusty that I decided to go for a messy paint style and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I reckon this is my first success at using colour. Ever! I usually steer clear of colour but this was an opportunity to experiment a bit so I took it head on, and I am glad I did. I think I will be doing more of this sort of thing in the future.

I thought I'd post up the rest of the work I have done for Back 2 Front as well as the blocking for a piece I have recently started.

First up, blocking of "the Casket".

This is a Christmas card for Northern Film and Media.

This is another Nickelodeon stinger called I Like...Wedgies.

New Website

Hey,

I now have my new website up and running courtesy of Stephen Kiernan. Come check it out at http://markkiernan.co.uk

Hey there,

Soon my website will be complete, mwahahaha! Until then I thought I 'd post up a stinger I animated at Back2Front at the start of the summer for Nickelodeon. I don't have the audio but its called I Like Spots, and thats what he says. It was my introduction to maya.

Here is a render of my October 09 11 second club entry. When I entered this it wasn't as finished as it is here and the render wasn't as nice either. Lots of little bits that niggle at me when I watch it but I've got to call it a day at some stage. I also hope to use a nicer rig for my next piece.

11 Second Club

Hey,

I haven't posted in freakin ages. This doesn't mean I haven't been doing stuff though. I am now doing a Digital City Fellowship in Middlesbrough in an attempt to set up as a freelancer. Soon I should have some work I have done since University, but until then I thought I would post up a Work In Progress. This is my first time trying to tackle and 11 Second Club piece and I am only half way through. I did it in Maya on the weekend and will return to it in the next few days to hopefully get it finished on time for entry to the competition.

Character Animation hand-in with crying

So here is the one with the crying. The computer crashed when i was saving it so had to just use the files that were rendered or i would have had to do it again. Also added some more sound.

3rd Year Character Animation

Hey,

this was the final hand-in version of my piece for third year Character Animation, until I remembered that it was too short so I'm now doing the shot of the pupil crying. There are things that need fixing, but I will be doing that later when I put a pupil in the flying desk. I also added some sound effects using After Effects.

Group Film Animatic - CAN

This is our first animatic for the group film we are doing in Creative Animation. We had quite a bit of trouble with the computers when putting it together so there are a good few places where it needs to be timed better. But you get the idea i hope.

This is a short film that myself and 4 others made in Ballyfermot College of Further Education in 2005. It was made in about 2 weeks.

Random Sketches and Stuff

These are taken from an A4 page of crappy doodles and just cleaned up.

This is Batman I did in Photoshop.

This is an unfinished sketch of the Chestbuster from Alien.

An elf from The Lord Of The Rings.

My first drawing with a tablet. Also used a crappy 3D model for the castle.

Life Drawing - Some recent, Others not so much

The Pill - Animatic for Concept Design Last Year

Myself and 4 others came up with this idea based on the painting The Scream. You know the one. I think it worked well. I drew it in Photoshop, did some backgrounds real quickly in Max and Kane Burton drew the monster.

Old Tests in 3DS MAX

I did this as a cloth test about 3 years ago. Don't think I've used cloth since.

I did this around the same time just to see if I had decent mouth shapes.
